Get your creative juices flowing this Halloween!

As a savvy PTA committee, we know that you want to have fun with what you do, and spend more time on the creative side than the admin side.

That means you may not want to organise a massive Halloween party, and save the next big event for Christmas instead. So what does a fun-to-make, easy going Halloween event look like? Here’s an example…

Pumpkin Carving Competition

An easy Halloween event idea is a pumpkin carving competition. Ask that the kids bring in already carved pumpkins ready to be judged. They could pay to enter in to the competition, raising PTA funds.

That means you don’t need to worry about sourcing pumpkins or running any sort of workshop with children wielding sharp implements!

You’ll need long tables to line a room with the pumpkins arranged on top. Since it’s probably the parents that did most of the carving anyway (!) you’ll want to do this one as an after school event rather than a lunchtime event just for the kids.

The main thing that you will need to organise is prizes – if you already have relationships with local businesses you could ask them for vouchers, but if you don’t, a big tub of Halloween sweets will work just fine.

Extra special additions

If you want to raise some extra funds, you could organise for parent volunteers to bring in and sell pumpkin pie and candy apples during the event. Using the PTAsocial app would make it ultra simple to find volunteers to help you.

To make a song and dance of the competitive element, you could make number cards on sticks for the judges and play the theme tune to Countdown when they are about to reveal the winners. For the top prize, you could even arrange for any student drummers to come and do a drum roll, live.

In return, the audience can vote for the judge with the best Halloween costume! Oh yes, I forgot to say, if you’re going to be a judge you’re also going to need to make a costume
