Hello and welcome to part two of our December and Christmas double-feature blog post.
As the festive season comes hurtling at us, your PTA may still be contemplating what you can do to make the most of the peace and goodwill on offer, to raise funds for your school.
Not to mention of course, making sure there is fun and community spirit in abundance for both the children and adults alike.
Did we say “Pantomime”? Oh no we didn’t — oh yes we did! Who doesn’t love a pantomime?
If you have a relatively small school, you may be able to arrange to take the children to your nearest pantomime. Most theatres offer great rates on group bookings and it is a great experience for the kids, as well as a whole heap of fun too.
If you don’t have a theatre nearby then you can always ask around and see if there are any amateur dramatic groups locally that are putting on a performance you can go to.
A nice alternative to going to panto, is having a pantomime come to visit you! Now it may be a little late for this year, but there are a number of nationwide travelling pantomime companies that will bring the production to your very own stage, often at just a fraction of the price, and can even work as a fundraising event if you sell tickets.
Many PTAs actually use PTA funds to cover the cost of pantomime as a special treat, but if your PTA is relatively new and can’t yet cover the whole cost you can always subsidise the price.
Afternoon Tea with Santa
For something a little bit different, why not organise a visit or an afternoon tea with Santa? All you need is hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, biscuits and cakes – and of course to schedule a visit from the big man himself!
Purchase small gifts from wholesalers or high street discount stores and gather a team of elves to wrap them in advance.
You have to watch at least the start of this video – the look on the kids’ faces is so adorable as they hear the sleigh bells and the penny drops about who’s about to walk in!
Look at this pretty setting for a visit to Santa.
Some lovely Christmas tea-time treats!
Run this as a PTA-sponsored event to give back, or as a fundraiser – but either way the kids will love it.
This is a wonderful way to bring some fun and festivity to your school and the local community is through singing and music. Best of all, it doesn’t need to cost a penny! If you choose to run a whole-school carol concert, then children can practise songs in their assemblies in the run up to the event.
Alternatively, you could ask for kids to come forward as part of a choir that could perform as a group either in a whole-school carol concert, or that could go out into the community and sing at churches, hospitals or local care homes. If your school has some budding musicians too, even better!
You can add a fundraising element if you like — pass around donation buckets during the event, or serve hot drinks and cakes after for a small charge.
Parent/PTA Christmas Social
After a hard year of fundraising, your PTA is ready to let their hair down a little and get into the Christmas Spirit(s)! Have a knees-up to thank your most active volunteers, or open it up to all parents just to show that you are a friendly, approachable bunch.
How about a coffee and mince pie drop in afternoon whilst the kids are at school? Or book the school hall one evening for music, nibbles and Christmas karaoke?
You could organise a buffet at your local Indian or Thai restaurant – negotiate a deal so it won’t break the bank. This one’s not a money-earner — just to get together, eat, drink and be merry.
Put your heads together and see what ideas will appeal to the potential volunteers at your school, and fits around their busy December schedules.
Kids’ Christmas Party
This is a lovely event for the PTA to help organise, just a few winter-themed games and treats to help the kids wind down for the holidays.
