This week saw our third #PTAhour on Twitter, and we invited PTAs to tell us all about their plans and ideas for indoor fundraisers, to cheer up the dark and cold winter months. This time of year can be challenging for PTAs as they struggle to motivate volunteers and raise funds in the post Christmas slump, so here’s what they had to say……
Our first question was about your regular indoor events:
Quiz night so far— TwickSch PTA (@PTATwickSch) January 17, 2018
Some PTAs are thinking outside of the box for new events this year:
Board game cafe sounds fun! How does that work?— HolystonePTA (@HolystonePta) January 17, 2018
We are holding our second Board game cafe this weekend. Just buy a load of games, supply refreshments and let everyone play to their hearts content.— Friends of Manor (@FOMDidcot) January 17, 2018
Yes it did , but it was hard work and about 18 months to plan and organise I think we raised about 5-6k— Griffydam PTA (@pta_griffydam) January 17, 2018
We asked about themed indoor fundraisers:
We hold fundraising events for most themes but most are 'take home' activities like giving all children small box of mini eggs and asking for box returned full of money— Friends of Manor (@FOMDidcot) January 17, 2018
And booking outside stalls for events:
You told us about your volunteers:
We too struggle, there is the main core but we managed to attract new yr7 mums to join up. Feel that you have to recruit early in yr7...otherwise too late!— TwickSch PTA (@PTATwickSch) January 17, 2018
And here’s what you had to say about the most popular indoor fundraiser – discos!
I think it is £2 or £3. Which is what most children used to spend on drinks and snacks but this way we have no leftover stock.— Friends of Manor (@FOMDidcot) January 17, 2018
A big thank you to all those who took part in the first #PTAhour of 2018! We’ll be holding regular sessions on Wednesday nights throughout the school year, our next planned #PTAhour is February 7th – hot topic to be announced shortly!
